Media Types Revisited

Not that online producers haven't been beating this dead horse for a while...but the reminder is always refreshing.

The 5 Media Types:

Text
Photos
Graphics
Audio
Video

Mindy McAdams summarizes each in her blog, but there is more to online storytelling than the media types...the key challenge:

1. Tell the story
2. Pick the medium that will best tell that story or each part of that story
3. Find a good design to integrate the pieces/parts so that you are telling the story through interactivity with the interface...while I would never say design is more important than the content, it does matter!
4. Edit, edit, edit...use only what is worth using, online is NOT an endless archive!
5. Make sure you find a way to engage/involve users

So, there it is...remember you are a JOURNALIST - which means you tell stories that are informative, accurate, timely, etc, etc...never forget the basics!
