Newseum Screenshots
The Newseum has yet to set an opening date...but we have reached crunch time on development for the too-cool-for-school interactive museum of news. I have learned a great deal in the process and wouldn't dare keep that wealth of knowledge to myself...so, here are some screenshots...SHHHHH!!! and some hints
Great Books Kiosk
This kiosk allows visitors to virtually flip through some very historic books that will be on display. You have probably seen the page-flip in several locations. I have now used it twice (see Explore Jamestown). It's a really neat application, although quirky at points. Hopefully AS3 might help make it a little less quirky.
As with most of the kiosks at the Newseum, data is loaded dynamically. Using an xml file that contains IDs and other information for each of the books, I was able to avoid duplicating code and just have one copy of the page-flip. There are lots of downloadable/open-source versions of the page-flip out there...so check it out!
I would recommend Mario Klingemann's: http://www.quasimondo.com/archives/000352.php
